DIY: Mini Succulent Garden

Any long time reader of this blog knows my love for succulents, so it won't come as a surprise when I say how super psyched I am for this particular DIY. Free People has posted this lovely make your own mini succulent garden, using what else? An old Altoid tin, brilliant if you ask me! This is a great way to recycle and keep those small spaces of your flat looking pretty!

Here's what you'll need:

-An empty mint tin or other shallow container

-Potting soil

-Fine gravel

-A piece of a succulent plant

-Water

Step 1: Wash out your Altoids tin and place a thin layer of gravel on the bottom. This will act as drainage so your plant doesn’t drown

Step 2: Mix up the remainder of your gravel with some potting soil. Fill up your tin with the mixture.

Step 3: Trim your succulent stem so it almost reaches the bottom of the tin. Insert it into the soil and build up some soil around it so it stays put. Lightly mist your plant and add some rocks for decoration.

Care: Your succulent shouldn’t grow too large because of the limited soil, but if it does you can always re-pot it. Mist lightly with water every few days or when soil is dry.

DIY: Wrap Scarf

I've been wanting a wrap scarf for this season but haven't found the perfect one, that is until I came across this fab DIY from Studs and Pearls. All you have to do is go to your local goodwill store and buy a sweater that catches your fancy. Click here for the directions!

DIY: Candle Holders

As a child we had zoo animals as candle holders, eventually they became rusty and unusable, and I've never been able to find them since. So you can imagine how happy I was when I saw this particular DIY on Seesaw Designs. It turned out really great, and it's easy to personalize to the theme of the party! Personally I like the dinosaurs!

Drill a hole into the plastic animal, insert candle holder and spray paint!

DIY: Velvet Bows

Just found this brilliant DIY on freshlygiven, it's a really great way to dress up any pair of shoes or outfit! You could even make it into a hair clip if you like! Click here to get the full tutorial!

DIY: Candle Jam Jars

Sayyy what? Jam jars that were once filled with sweet fruity goodness now double as a canteen of light? Check out this nifty DIY that I found on fellowfellow! This will be great for the spring time when you can have parties outside again. They look really beautiful lit up!

Hipster Geometric Garland

Found this today on the Urban Outfitters blog, thought it was pretty cool, I even made some for myself, it was pretty easy. Try it out! Click for the templates here.

The ladies from Blow Up!, Claire and Kristen made an easy DIY, listed below is what you will need.

Decorate your winter wonderland with 3d geometric paper garland! These little ornament like gems are sure to bring bling to your party.

You will need:

Ruler

Scissors

Printer

Bone Folder

Hot Glue Gun

at least 4' of string

crochet needle

x-acto knife

DIY:Toilet Roll Wall Art

Here's a nifty idea, got any toilet rolls lying around? Instead of throwing them in the bin, turn them into a wall art! Courtesy of Design*Sponge. Click here for more crafty ideas!

Materials:

Toilet Paper rolls 

Scissors 

White glue

 Stapler 

Paint + brushes 

Glitter

Laundry pins

Steps:

1. Crush paper roll

2. Cut into approximately 5 equal parts don’t have to be exact

3. Place the rolls on a flat surface creating a desired pattern. spend time trying different compositions and patterns.

4. Glue where rolls are touching, hold with laundry pins to dry. You may use a stapler as an alternative, what ever is easier. I find that glue is easier for the younger kids.

5. You may paint and add sparkles. Sprinkle the glitter on the wet paint, this way it will sticks and you wont need any glue.

6. You may expend the pattern in to an organic cell growth. The challenge is when to say STOP.

D.I.Y. Glam Your Denim Shirt

Yesterday while looking through the Free People Blog, I came across this DIY post. I have to admit it's a pretty cool idea and I can't wait to try it myself! Tribal prints are really in at the moment so I'll probably use some fabric to go along the lines of that. Click here for further instructions!

You could also sew words like this onto your denim shirt!

D.I.Y. Barn wood Headboard

Hey Guys! The past few days have been interesting to say the least. After a surprisingly fierce snowstorm the power has been out at my humble abode until last night. That was four days without power. Now I'm back and had to catch up on all my blogs, one of my favorites, Design Sponge, had this great DIY, hopefully one day I'll get to try it. It does look a bit tricky, but well worth the effort!
