Movie News: Damsels in Distress

Here's a movie that I've only just heard about, it looks a little odd but I love all the actors involved such as Analeigh Tipton, Greta Gerwig and Adam Brody, it also happens to be produced by Sony Picture Classics, my favorite production company. So I am officially looking forward to April 6th, the films US release. Watch the trailer for Damsels in Distress below!

Movie News: The Adventures of Tintin

It seems that in the past few weeks all I have been hearing about are spectacular animated films, (along with The Muppets, which I want to see soooo badly!). The one that I am most excited to see is Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin. Since I was a youngin' I have been a fan of his movies from ET to Catch Me If You Can, I've loved them all. Not only is it supposed to be a great story in general but the cast of voices that Spielberg has lined up should make for an interesting time as well!

Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli Festival at IFC!

Being a child that grew up on Hayao Miyazaki films I can't tell you how happy I was when I saw the front page of the NYTimes Arts section covered in a still from Totoro (my first Miyazaki film, created in 1988). It turns out that starting now until January 5th IFC theaters all over NYC will be showing Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli (Miyazaki's Studio) films, there are a few that I haven't seen yet and will be sure to catch in theaters. This is a real treat to anyone who appreciates what Miyazaki has created in these truly beautiful and magical stories, I really recommend anyone with children to take some time over the holiday to bring them to one of these films (all trailers area available on youtube). Movie News: J. Edgar

I have been waiting for this film, J. Edgar to come out now ever since the information that Eastwood and DiCaprio were doing a film together, in my mind there couldn't be a better combination. That's why I was surprised upon hearing mixed reviews on the film. I myself haven't had a chance to go see it yet, hopefully I'll have time this weekend. The only thing that anyone seems to agree on is that DiCaprio does indeed deserve an Oscar nomination for his roll as J. Edgar. What do you guys think?

Movie News: My Week with Marilyn

Okay, okay I know you've had this preview shoved down your throats most likely, but I don't care, while Michelle's voice is totally off, you cant deny the truth -this film is bee-eee-aaa-utiful! Cinematographer Ben Smithard did an excellent job as always, Smithard has worked on films such as The Damned United, The Trip, and TV mini series Cranford.

Movie News: The Iron Lady

Sayyyyy what?! So excited, Meryl Streep has another movie coming out December 16th. The Iron Lady, based on the life of the first and only female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Margaret Thatcher. Though the trailer doesn't give much away, it looks epic! Can't wait to see this one!

Movie News: Happy Happy

I am Happy Happy to say that I loved this film! Happy Happy is a film about family and believing that it is the most important thing in the world to main character, Kaja. She is an eternal optimist in spite of living with a man who would rather go hunting with the boys and isn't interested in having sex with her anymore because she "isn't particularly attractive." Whatever. That's life. But when "the perfect couple" moves in next door, Kaja struggles to keep her emotions in check. Not only do these successful, beautiful, exciting people sing in a choir, they have also adopted a child - from Ethiopia! These new neighbors open a whole new world to Kaja, with consequences for everyone involved. And when Christmas comes around, it becomes evident that nothing will ever be like before - even if Kaja tries her very best.

Movie News: Elvis & Nixon

If there was ever a character combination I wouldn't have guessed it would be this one, Elvis & Nixon. But that is indeed the newest film on the horizon for Universal. While the two American figures do have an interesting story, I am interested to see how it will play out on the big screen. It has just been announced that Eric Bana has signed on for the roll of the King, while there are currently negotiations for Danny Huston to play the roll of President Nixon.
