Electronic Noise: Gentleman Starkey

Hey guys!
Recently my cousins band Gentleman Starkey, was reviewed by Dave Davies of the oh so rockin' Kinks. They recently had one of their songs on an Emerging Icons Album for the 2012 Summer Olympics where they got to perform their songs (how completely amazing is that?!) Music Videos: 212 By Azealia Banks

Here's the song that I have been playing constantly this week, 212 by Azealia Banks. Not only is this an amazing song, but this video is just plain smack you in the face fabulous. The blunt cuts, the high contrast black and white, and the high energy that the three characters exude doing not much at all. It's simple and I love it.

Hey everyone! So sorry for the week of no posts! It's been super crazy as we are getting everything ready for the back to school issue at Seventeen! (The May issue with Chloe Moretz is now on newsstands!) Anyways here is my song of the week Bring the Light by Beady Eye. The lead singer, Liam Gallagher also known for his previous band Oasis with brother Noel Gallagher, started this band in late 2010 and they are absolutely fabulous! I spent the majority of the day yesterday listening to them, I also really love this particular music video. They have such a great sound, reminiscent of the Rolling Stones. Electronic Noise: Jack White

He's the love of my life, even if he doesn't know it. Jack White is just genius, there is no other way to explain him. It's hard to not know his work as he is involved in so many different projects, his most notable being 50% of the band The White Stripes. He also has an extensive list of songs for film soundtracks. After the White Stripes sent out a letter to their fans last February, announcing the end of their fabulous band we have been waiting for Jack's solo album, and it seems that it is finally here! I just love how simple he makes Rock n' Roll Elegance look in this video. Take a look see at his single, Love Interruption below!

Music News: Glory By Jay-Z Feat B.I.C.

On Monday Beyonce and Jay-Z confirmed the birth of their child Blue Ivy Carter. On the very same day Jay-Z released his newest single Glory which features his daughter crying as the song fades out. The song will be entering Billboards with the youngest artist ever, breaking all records, it will surly be a hard one to beat!

Here's a video from StyleCaster and one of my favorite artists of the moment, Bon Duke. I know I've blogged about him before but I just can't seem to stop myself. In this video Duke takes you into this whole other world of smoke and mirrors, celebrity, dancing, and hipsters which is all brought together by this brilliant voiceover. Watch it, if nothing else it will make you want to dance.

99 Problems By Hugo

I heard this for the first time the other day watching the film No Strings Attached. I found myself listening to this song in the background instead of the dialogue. One of my favorite things to do with songs I love is go on youtube and find other famous bands/singers that have done covers of it and compare it to the original. I love to see how each artist tries to make it their own. I think that 99 Problems by Hugo is a great example of this. Now don't get me wrong I love the original by Jay-Z just as much, but I love this one too! 

           Another example of a great cover is Rave On by M Ward, originally by Buddy Holly. Or The Rolling Stone's version of Ain't Too Proud to Beg by The Temptations. Check out those videos by clicking on the song titles above!
